THE ANIMERO (TRIBUTE TO DON CHUCHOHUEVO)
The Animero is one of the characters with the most tradition in Antioquia (currently there are few left), who is also part of the myths and beliefs of our country Colombia.
This gloomy Character is in charge of taking the souls of the deceased for a walk through all the streets of the town until taking them back to his home: the Cemetery. This office is performed every year at 12:00 at night, during the month of November, which is the month of the Blessed Souls of Purgatory. He begins this Tour accompanied by several people and with a cape, hat or hood that covers his eyes, ringing a bell that he rings on this journey to guide all the souls that are behind him, while he passes through the streets, shouting , to invite people to pray, "an Our Father for the Blessed Souls of Purgatory for the love of God."
This personification was done by Don Jesús Torres, known as Chuchohuevo, who for 53 years carried out this work in the municipality of Copacabana – Antioquia, who inspires me to carry out this work In tribute since I once had the opportunity to follow his journey and accompany him with great curiosity. , admiration and deep respect for the fervor of a person in following their traditions and of course their faith as an example to many more generations and above all contributing to the historical memory of the country in terms of traditions and customs, making a myth or legend still valid nowadays.
